Current Board Openings
Join Community Organizing Alliance's Board of Directors!!! (Two seats available)
We are currently seeking two new Board Members to join our five-member Board of Directors. Our board provides strategic leadership, governance, and support to help advance COA's mission and long-term vision. Below is a description of the expected responsibilities and time commitment:
- COA Board Meetings are held bi-monthly for ~1.5 hours, primarily on Zoom (if in-person in Lewiston, advance notice will be given).
- The board is asked to weigh in on occasional requests over email, so you must be able to check email regularly.
- You can also expect to attend COA events as relevant, assist with networking/fundraising, and serve on a committee as needed (we are hoping to develop a finance & a governance committee).
- We estimate the time commitment to be ~10 hours/quarter.
We're looking for individuals who are passionate about social justice, civic engagement, community organizing (or anyone who is passionate about long term social and racial equity in Maine!) We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds who bring lived experience, professional expertise, and a commitment to equity and collective leadership. Intern/Fellowship Opportunities
The Youth Advisory Council is an opportunity for young people to develop themselves while developing others. Members strengthen their leadership and organizing skills, build meaningful relationships with other young people, and gain opportunities to turn their ideas, interests, and experiences into action.
Council members gain hands-on experience in leadership, community organizing, public speaking, relationship building, event planning, and teamwork. Members will have opportunities to lead projects and events, participate in organizing and leadership trainings, connect with community leaders and decision-makers, and build skills and experiences that can support their educational, professional, and personal goals.
Most importantly, YAC gives young people an opportunity to have a meaningful voice and leadership role within COA/CAA. Members help the organization understand the interests, experiences, and priorities of young people; advise where COA/CAA should invest in youth; develop their peers as leaders; and help build a stronger network of young people who can organize and act together around the issues that matter to them.
YAC is both an opportunity to grow as a leader and help build the leadership of others.
- Available seats: 7
- Monthly (in-person/virtual) team meetings
- Term: Youth Advisory Council members serve a one-year term, with the opportunity to renew for a second year. Members are expected to participate consistently throughout their term, while recognizing that school, work, family, or other circumstances may require a member to step away.
